Medical Marijuana in New Zealand

A SHORT FILM ABOUT THE PROHIBITION OF NATURE & THE NATURE OF PROHIBITION. Cannabis is one of the oldest and safest medicines in human history. The oldest historical medical text, by Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, lists it as one the most important of the botanical remedies. It has been utilized since prehistory until the 19th century without a single recorded death resulting from its use - compared to legal pharmaceutical drugs which kill 200,000 people a year... This film is in support of Peter Davy, a Timaru cancer patient currently facing a prison sentence for growing medicinal cannabis to treat his illness. He will be sentenced on 4/20 this year. Starring Professor David Nutt, Dr Geoff Noller, Dakta Green and a cross section of medical users.

Political Scandal in New Zealand

July 15, 2012: "Police Blackmailed Green, Lawyer Says"
"The Police Inspector who led the raid against The Daktory should lose his job for blackmail, the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party leader says. Wellington barrister and party leader Michael Appleby said that when the Daktory was raided last month, Dakta Green's fiancee was held in custody without bail. Police offered to release her and drop all charges against her as long as Green pleased guilty to his new cannabis charges. "The police are blackmailing Green by trying to solicit a guilty plea out of him while his partner rots in jail on spurious charges." Mr Appleby said."

"By extrapolating from those 200 plants, that I would yield an incredible 50lbs of saleable cannabis, worth a hugely exaggerated figure of $240,000, my tiny home operation was turned into an imaginary major drug bust. Instead of a quick judiciary process through the District Court which would most likely have resulted in a period of home detention; I was told by the judge that due to the large amount of (imaginary) money involved, my case would have to be heard in the High Court, and end up with me serving potentially 4 to 5 years in prison. My sentencing will take place on June 8th 2011 and I plan to protest the extreme exaggeration that seems to be business as usual for the New Zealand Police."

The Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party exists to legalise cannabis for recreational, spiritual, medicinal and industrial purposes; to empower people to work together for peace and true justice; and to institute a proper and just balance between the power of the state and the rights and dignity of the individual. We believe adults have the right to freedom of choice unless that choice harms other people or the planet.

The Case of "Switched On Gardener" - "Operation Lime."

In April 2010, the New Zealand police conducted a nationwide operation against a gardening business and arrested more than 200 people, mostly shop employees, with a wide range of offences under New Zealand drug laws.

Video: "An example of how mainstream media in New Zealand easily manipulates your opinion on matters such as cannabis. TVNZ clip of the "Switched On Gardener" raids."

"The search warrants included all 16 branches and distribution centre of major national supplier of indoor growing supplies Switched On Gardener , a chain that regularly advertises on national television. The managers, directors and employees have been arrested and police say will soon be facing charges. Altogether over 250 people face over 700 charges."

A massive undercover cannabis operation netting more than 250 suspects on 750 charges will break the cornerstone of the industry, police say. Police this morning swooped on 35 businesses and numerous residential addresses throughout the country as search warrants were executed as part of 'Operation Lime'. The two year operation targeted businesses and individuals responsible for the commercial sale of equipment used in the growing of cannabis. Those arrested have appeared in district courts around the country today, police said.

"A Cashmere director is amongst those busted by police for cannabis offences today. More people have been appearing in Christchurch District Court this morning charged with drugs offences following yesterday's massive nationwide bust."

"Prohibition was introduced as a fraud; it has been nursed as a fraud. It is wrapped in the livery of Heaven, but it comes to serve the devil. It comes to regulate by law our appetites and our daily lives. It comes to tear down liberty and build up fanaticism, hypocrisy, and intolerance. It comes to confiscate by legislative decree the property of many of our fellow citizens. It comes to send spies, detectives, and informers into our homes; to have us arrested and carried before courts and condemned to fines and imprisonments. It comes to dissipate the sunlight of happiness, peace, and prosperity in which we are now living and to fill our land with alienations, estrangements, and bitterness. It comes to bring us evil --only evil-- and that continually. Let us rise in our might as one and overwhelm it with such indignation that we shall never hear of it again as long as grass grows and water runs."

Roger Q. Mills of Texas, 1887.
